Baker Mallett Awarded Multi-Disciplinary Services Commission for £5 million Ellesmere Park High School Extension

20th August 2025

Baker Mallett has secured the roles of Quantity Surveyor and Employers Agent for a Phase 1 single-storey extension project at Ellesmere Park, Eccles, a high school which forms part of Consilium Academies Trust. This appointment comes after a competitive tender process that highlighted Baker Mallett’s proven track record in delivering cost-effective and sustainable estate solutions for educational clients.

In the initial phase of development, Consilium Academies is investing in a 156m2 dining hall extension, an updated service-road layout, and two temporary classrooms to accommodate the rising student population and changing curriculum demands. This early works package lays the foundation for a larger Phase 2 expansion via a 920m2 new build extension, aiming to serve 900 students, an increase of 150 students from the current capacity.  Baker Mallett are pleased to have already been appointed as Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager & Employers Agent for this later work.

Joel Thornton, Director of Infrastructure and Operations at Consilium Academies commented:

"This extension will provide much-needed space and facilities to support both current and future learners at Ellesmere Park High School. We're pleased to be working with Baker Mallett, whose experience in the education sector and thoughtful, student-centred approach stood out throughout the tender process. Together, we’re building more than just classrooms, we’re helping to shape a space where young people can feel proud, supported, and ready to succeed."

The extension will be executed under a JCT Design and Build Contract with construction expected to begin in October 2025 and practical completion anticipated for September 2026. As the school will operate at full capacity during the construction, Baker Mallett and the contractor will enforce strict logistics, safety protocols, and phasing plans to minimise disruption for students and staff.

Reflecting on the contract award, CEO Neil Griffiths stated, “This marks our first project with Consilium Academies, and we hope it signifies the start of a long-term partnership. We bring significant educational experience to ensure the school's operations remain undisturbed, and we have already demonstrated our commitment to supporting our client’s broader educational vision through our recent sponsorship at the Consilium Student Awards Ceremony. We look forward to the journey of this new project and with our new client”.
