Baker Mallett were appointed the role of Principal Designer for the redevelopment of the Latin American Wetland Aviary project.
The project involved upgrading the facilities for the resident flamingo and other Latin American wetland species and improving the visitor exhibit accessibility and experience.
The project was part of an ongoing multi-species conservation improvement and development programme, to prevent the extinction of endangered species in Latin America. The new Aviary has been transformed into a remarkable interactive habitat which gives visitors the opportunity to walk through the aviary side-by-side with some of the most magnificent bird species – as well as watch them fly around their incredible new habitat.
The works comprised the construction of a new aviary over netting, 12 metre high supporting structure, 6 metre high perimeter enclosure fencing, flamingo house modifications, lagoon desilting and reconfiguration, construction of an exhibit visitor walkway and viewing platform, bio-diversity porches and various associated siteworks and external works.
The project was successfully completed within 24 weeks and within budget.
