Baker Mallett Appointed as Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor to Lead Bruche All-Through Academy Transformation
9th January 2026
Baker Mallett has been appointed as Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor for the ambitious redevelopment of Bruche Primary School into a 300-pupil, two-to-16 All-Through Academy. The £13million transformation will deliver a 44,400 sq ft, two-storey teaching block designed to support a flexible, future-ready curriculum.
Neil Griffiths, CEO and Project Manager at Baker Mallett, commented:
“We’re proud to be leading a project that places educational excellence and community value at its heart. Every square foot—from specialist STEM labs to the multi-use games area—is being designed to inspire learning and support the school’s long-term vision.”
The transformation of Bruche Primary School into a full All-Through Academy for ages 2–16 marks a bold change from its original single-form entry. At the heart of the redevelopment is a purpose-built early years block, tailored to nurture nursery, reception, and two-year-old provision within a developmentally rich environment. Complementing this is a two-storey extension featuring a dedicated STEM-focused floor layout, designed to foster cross-disciplinary learning across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths. Flexible teaching spaces will support dual use and curriculum adaptability, while shared zones—such as dining and sports facilities—are configured to accommodate mixed-age groups, promoting inclusivity and efficient space utilisation. Core amenities, including sports areas, changing rooms, and toilets, are being future-proofed to support long-term growth. Crucially, the new build will integrate seamlessly with existing structures, creating a cohesive school environment that champions educational excellence and strengthens community cohesion.
Situated on a tight urban site, the project has demanded innovative design strategies to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain targets, including the strategic placement of the multi-use games area and pitch areas to minimise ecological disruption. Surrounded by residential properties, the scheme has undergone rigorous environmental and logistical assessments to reduce construction-related impacts. Pedestrian and vehicular flows have been carefully modelled to ensure safe, efficient access for pupils, staff, and visitors and particular attention has been given to creating a nurturing early years environment, supporting smooth transitions into school life and fostering a sense of security and belonging from the outset.
Baker Mallett are leading a team of specialists selected by Warrington Primary Academy Trust, including Studio OL3 (architects), Clancy Consulting (structural engineers), and Steven Hunt Associates (MEP).
Construction is scheduled to begin in late spring, with phased handovers enabling Bruche Academy to welcome its first extended intake in September 2027. From pre-contract cost planning to post-occupancy evaluation, Baker Mallett will oversee every stage to ensure the new academy sets a benchmark for sustainability, safety, and community engagement.
