Revamp of the Continous Caster 21
Baker Mallett was appointed the role of Cost Engineers and Quantity Surveyors on the revamp of an existing Caster 21 at the Corus Ljmuiden site in The Netherlands.
The management role and engineering services were supplied by Siemens VAI which Baker Mallett assisted commercially.
Baker Mallett assisted the Project Manager in all commercial and contractual aspects of the project, pre contract and post contract. Produced daily cost reports, variation registers, delay registers, claim assistance, sub contractor payments and measures.
The Project commenced on the pre build area in May 2006 with the shutdown commencing in August 2006. However, due to the demolition contractor underestimating the scope and complexity of the demolition the contractor delayed SVAI and the start date. SVAI therefore did not complete the contractual obligations until November 2006, incurring a claim by Corus for liquidated and ascertained damages.
