Baker Mallett were appointed by English Heritage to provide full pre and post contract quantity surveying services for the alteration and refurbishment project at Priors Lodge.

Castle Acre Priory was founded by the Warenne family soon after the Norman Conquest and was the home and workplace of monks and their servants, a refuge for pilgrims, and a stopping point for royalty, clergy and nobility. Today the priory remains are among the finest and best preserved monastic ruins in England.

The Priors Lodgings survived as a habitable space following the dissolution of the monasteries offering the opportunity for visitors to explore the rooms largely intact.

The existing roof coverings of the Priors Lodge had reached the end of their life and needed replacing.

The project involved Installation of new rainwater gulley’s, refurbishment of existing rainwater goods, replacement of existing rainwater goods with new cast iron, stripping old roof coverings and replacing with new and salvaged pantiles, undertaking timber repairs to the roof structure and carrying out repairs to the internal plaster including lime plastering.
