Originally founded in 1919 at Tonbridge in Kent the practice expanded into Teesside in 1957 whereby further offices have been opened at Warrington, Whitehaven and Carlisle in the North West and Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Selkirk in the North East and Scottish Borders respectively.
The Practice offer clients a diversification of services with Project Management and Quantity Surveying services forming the core of the practices business. These services are carried out in both the traditional and petro-chemical sectors of the industry.
One of the first major commissions undertaken was the Empire Exhibition including Wembley Stadium.
Baker Mallett is one of the few progressive practices who seize the opportunity offered by the heavy engineering industries and meet with the challenges which they present by adapting and enhancing the core skills acquired through its long and successful association with the traditional sectors of the construction industry.
In January 2004 Baker Mallett became a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) which has given the opportunity of restructuring the practice into a modern national entity whilst retaining the key cultural aspects of a partnership that Baker Mallett, and its Clients, value so highly.
The South East office relocated in December 2006 from Tonbridge to new premises in Maidstone reflecting Baker Mallett's continued growth, development and increasing profile within the London and South East Region.
On 1st April 2007, Baker Mallett acquired RH Duns, a respected firm of Chartered Quantity Surveyors and Construction Consultants located in Newcastle, furthermore strengthening Baker Mallett's profile within the North East of England.
