A WINNING DEVELOPMENT
When the historic Metro’s Sports Club in Stretford Manchester started feeling the financial pinch they knew their biggest asset was the land on which the club stood. The Metro’s Sports Club is the last link between the town and the great British manufacturer Metropolitan Vickers, one of the largest employers in Greater Manchester in the mid 1900’s and the producer of the historic Lancaster bomber.
After 2 years of campaigning by the club a deal was struck with the Warrington based Inspired Developments who, in return for the land to build new apartments, would provide the members of Metro’s with a purpose built club with bowling pavilion and a re vamped bowling green. Inspired Developments is the regeneration arm of Bolton based construction firm the Seddon Group and has worked with Baker Mallett on one of its other schemes in Ellesmere Port. Baker Mallett was appointed by the members of Metro’s as Project Managers and Employers Agent to assist in the finalisation of the deal, produce the Contract documentation and to provide support to the club throughout the transition from old to new. This involved a great deal of complex planning to keep the old club in use whilst the new club was being built. The recently completed Phase 1 saw the old club part demolished to provide the space for the construction of the new club. This was completed on the 24 Novmeber 2008. Phase 2 has just commenced which involves the demolition of the existing club to provide the new car parking facilities.
This project is one of a number of Design and Build projects relation to Sports and Leisure Clubs managed by the Warrington Office in the last 2 to 3 years.
